Questions about coaching?
Choosing the right running coach is an important decision. Here are answers to some of the questions I'm most commonly asked about my coaching, training plans and how we can work together.
-
While I work with runners of all abilities, I specialise in helping runners who want structured, supportive coaching to achieve ambitious goals.
My coaching is particularly suited to:
First-time ultra marathon runners
Experienced runners stepping up to longer ultras, including 100-mile and multi-day events
Trail and mountain runners preparing for challenging terrain
Runners returning after injury, illness or a break from training
Runners looking to improve their fitness, endurance or speed
Busy professionals, parents and shift workers who need training built around real life rather than the other way around
Every training plan is personalised to your experience, goals, available time and lifestyle, helping you make consistent progress while enjoying the process.

I'm a full-time, certified UESCA Ultra Running Coach, qualified UK Athletics Coach in Running Fitness (CiRF) and Leadership in Running Fitness (LiRF), as well as a qualified Mountain Leader with Outdoor First Aid certification.
Alongside my coaching qualifications, I'm an experienced trail and ultra runner myself, having completed events ranging from 30 miles through to 200+ mile ultras across road, trail and mountain terrain.
Combining evidence-based coaching with real-world experience allows me to understand both the physical and mental challenges runners face throughout their training and races.
-
Not at all.
Many of my runners come to me because they're preparing for a specific event, but plenty simply want to become fitter, healthier or more confident in their running.
Whatever your goal, coaching provides structure, accountability and expert guidance to help you get there.
-
Every plan I write is built around your life, not somebody else's.
Before we begin, we'll discuss your work commitments, family life, training history, available time and goals. Your programme is then designed to fit around those factors, making it realistic and sustainable.
I regularly coach runners who work shifts, travel frequently or balance training alongside busy careers and family commitments. If life changes - as it inevitably does - your training changes too.
-
I deliver all training through Training Peaks, one of the world's leading endurance coaching platforms.
You'll have access to your personalised training calendar through the mobile app or website, making it easy to view upcoming sessions, upload completed activities and communicate with me throughout your coaching.
-
Not at all.
I coach runners across a wide range of abilities, from those preparing for their very first race through to experienced ultra runners looking to take on bigger challenges.
A coach doesn't simply provide a training plan. You gain expert guidance, accountability, feedback and an objective view of your training, helping you train smarter, avoid common mistakes and continue progressing.
-
Yes. I ask all new runners to commit to a minimum of three months.
Meaningful improvements in fitness, strength and endurance take time, and this initial period allows us to establish good training habits and build momentum towards your goals.
-
No. Coaching is paid monthly with no joining fee or lengthy contract.
After your initial three-month commitment, I simply ask for one month's notice should you decide to stop coaching.
-
Absolutely. While injuries should always be managed alongside appropriate healthcare professionals where necessary, I regularly work with runners returning from injury or extended breaks from training.
We'll rebuild gradually, focusing on consistency, confidence and long-term progression rather than rushing back too quickly.
-
Every coaching relationship begins with an initial consultation where we'll discuss your running background, goals, lifestyle, previous injuries, available training time and any upcoming races.
This gives me the information I need to build a training programme that's genuinely tailored to you from day one.
