Guided trail runs

Join us to explore some fantastic trails across South Wales in the safety of a guided, group trail run.

All runs are led at a relaxed, social pace and are a great way to meet like-minded people and explore new areas.

We currently hold one weekend guided trail run a month in areas across South Wales.

There’s a FAQs section below to help answer any questions you might have. For anything else, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

FAQs

  • The most common question we get asked. No matter who we have on the day, we run as a group and all runs are led at a relaxed, sociable pace. There are frequent stops to allow runners to catch their breath and all hills are hiked. We have two certified run leaders with one leading at the front and the other supporting at the back.

  • On the flat, the pace will usually be between 10-12 min/miles. However, as our runs will typically involve hills, the overall pace of our guided runs will be approximately 15-16 min/miles, e.g. a 6 mile (10km) run with hills can take about an hour and half.

  • Every event we list on Eventbrite includes a recommended kit list. This can vary due to the length of the run, location and time of year. The kit listed is included for the safety of all runners. If you have any specific questions on kit, please email christian@trail-nation.co.uk and he'll be happy to advise.

  • Ideally all runners would have appropriate trainers, ensuring good grip and stability on the trails. However, we appreciate you may want to give it a go before buying a pair.

So, in the spring and summer, they’re not essential and you can come along in road running trainers – though be warned they might get muddy! However, in the autumn and winter we insist on runners wearing trail running trainers due to the wet and muddy conditions.

  • For all weekend guided trail runs, an email is sent two days before the run with all the info you need on when and where to meet and what the weather’s looking like. For Thursday Club, the location info is included on Eventbrite.

  • It’s perfectly understandable to be a bit nervous about coming to your first group run, but please be reassured the runs are safe, inclusive, friendly and led at a relaxed pace.

This is feedback we received from a runner who came along: “I was scared for a few months that I was too slow for group runs. But during these runs, even if I’m at the back, I never feel like I’ll be left behind or that I need to push beyond my capabilities or limits to keep up!”

  • If you’ve booked a ticket and wish to cancel, please note there are no refunds. Instead, please email christian@trail-nation.co.uk to let us know you’re no longer able to make the run. Your name will be added to a ‘carry over’ list and you’ll be able to use and transfer your space for a future run.

“I love trail running and happily go out and get lost on my own routes but I much prefer trail running in a group and discovering new places together - additionally it gives me the added peace of mind that if it’s dark and I feel unsafe or if I fall, I’m not on my own. It also challenges me - we might not be sprinting but the elevation and terrain is often challenging enough.”

“I moved from London and this has been a great way for me to discover new places and new trails that I never would have known about. It’s also been a great way to meet people who also love trail running. I love the social pace and everyone is so welcoming, the miles tend to fly by.”
